Mr. Joey Lucita
Director of Bands
Lehman High School

In the spring of 2004 Mr. Lucita was selected as the Director of Bands at Lehman High School. Lehman is a 4A high school, in Kyle Texas with a total enrollment of 1400 students. It opened its doors officially on August 17th, 2004. Mr. Lucita is responsible for conducting the Wind Ensemble and all Administrative duties within the Lehman Instrumental Music department and it’s feeder programs.
Mr. Lucita is currently in his 16th year of teaching in the Hays Consolidated Independent School District. He was previously the Associate Director at Jack C. Hays High School for 10 years, where his duties included conducting the Hays High School Symphonic Band I, Hays High School Jazz Ensemble, assisting with the Pride of Rebel Country Marching Band, and assisting with the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band II, and Symphonic Band III.
Before coming to the Hays CISD in 1994 Mr. Lucita was the assistant director at Calhoun High School in Port Lavaca, Texas from 1992-1994. Prior to that, he was the assistant director, for one year, at West Columbia High School outside of Lake Jackson, Texas.
Mr. Lucita received his Masters Degree in Education Administration from Texas State University. He received his Bachelor Degree in Music Education from the Southwest Texas State University School of Music. He began his secondary education as an undergraduate by attending Southeastern Louisiana University located in Hammond, Louisiana. He is a member of TMEA, TBA, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and Kappa Kappa Psi. Mr. Lucita also performs as a French Horn player with the Austin Symphonic Band under the direction of Mr. Dick Floyd. His hobbies include playing golf (better stated as losing golf balls), SCUBA diving and tinkering in computer networking. He has been married to his wife Karen for years 16 and has a daughter, Mia, who was born July 3rd, 2002.

Mr. Marvin Housley
Associate Band Director
LHS Jazz Band and Concert Band Conductor

Marvin Housley, an Amite, Louisiana native, is in his 10th year of teaching. He received his Bachelors of Music from Southwest Texas State University in May of 1999. While at SWT, he was the Field Assistant for the Bobcat Band. While in college, Marvin taught flute lessons for the Jack Hays band program, which was one of two recipients of the Suddler Flag of Honor, which is presented by the John Phillip Sousa Foundation. Mr. Housley is also a member of Texas Bandmasters Association and TMEA.
Before attending college, Mr. Housley spent 6 years in the Army as a musician, playing flute in the 323rd Army Band in San Antonio and Wuerzburg, Germany, in the Third Infantry Division Band. He also is currently part of the 36th Infantry Division Band for the Texas Army National Guard where he is the selected Warrant Officer Candidate to command the Guard Band. Mr. Housley has been an instructor for Expressions Drum and Bugle Corps, of Hammond, Louisiana, where he was the Baritone instructor for 3 years. Mr. Housley attended Southeastern Louisiana University, before transferring to SWT where he pledged Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, the Professional Music Fraternity for men.
Mr. Housley was the Assistant Band Director in the Fredericksburg School District. There he assisted with the Marching Band, directed the Concert Band and was the Jazz Ensemble director. While at Fredericksburg, Mr. Housley, performed with the Jazz Cowboys and sang with Canto, a community choir.

Mr. Christopher Barrera
Associate Band Director - Symphonic Band Conductor
Christopher M. Barrera joined the Lehman Band Program in the summer of 2008. He is currently in his 6th year of teaching and 2nd year at Lehman HS. Mr. Barrera previously held the position of assistant band director at Rayburn MS in San Antonio for 2 years and the assistant band director at Victoria Memorial HS in Victoria, TX for 2 years. His duties for 2009-2010 include conductor of the Symphonic band, teaching beginner double reeds at Chapa MS and Wallace MS, marching band drill writer, and director of the marching band. .
Mr. Barrera received his bachelor’s degree in Music Education from The University of Texas at Austin in 2003. While attending UT he studied trumpet with Ray Crisara and Ray Sasaki and earned his “horns” as a member of The Longhorn Band for 5 years. Mr. Barrera is a Former Marching Member of The Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps during the 1997 and 1998 summers. He spent some time away from the activity and later rejoined The Cavaliers as member of the visual staff for the 2003-2005 seasons. He is a member of TMEA, TBA, and alumnus of the Zeta Psi fraternity. His hobbies include cooking (with his girlfriend Erin), playing poker tournaments (online), and playing with his dog Barkley.
Mr. Sergio Ortiz
Color-Guard / Winter-Guard Instructor
Mr. Ortiz’s first performed in the Spring of 2000 of his Senior year with the Illusions Colorguard from Uvalde Tx. After graduation he became a Charter member of Revolution Drum and Bugle Corps from San Antonio, TX, where he marched as 1st Baritone. After taking a break for school he rejoined Revolution for their Independent Winterguard in 2003 show titled “Con Fuoco.” In January 2004 he moved to Austin, TX and has been teaching guard since. He has worked with Vista Ridge HS, Lake Travis HS, Akins HS, and is currently teaching for the Lehman Lobo Band and The Wimberley Texan Band. He is also currently on staff as the Flag Choreographer with ATX Independent from Austin, TX.
